AI as a Game-Changer for Modern Garment and Textile Manufacturing

In 2023, the textile industry was valued at US$1.84 trillion and was projected to reach US$3.77 trillion by 2033. This rapid expansion is driven by the increasing demand for quality and customization, and artificial intelligence (AI) provides powerful solutions to improve productivity, accelerate growth and foster innovation across the industry.

In garment manufacturing, AI is also playing a role in improving automated sewing through quality control systems that reduce defects and waste while increasing production accuracy and speed.

Guidelines for using AI in garment and textile production

1. Develop and design new products, such as designing apparel with 3D models or analyzing consumer data to forecast trends.

2. Use AI to improve manufacturing processes, control quality, reduce waste, and automate systems, increasing manufacturers' competitiveness.

3. Improve supply chain management by analyzing data to forecast demand, manage inventory, and optimize production schedules.

4. Employee training, such as providing customizable, interactive learning experiences, helps increase employee productivity.

5. Use AI to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact by improving machine efficiency and reducing fabric waste.

6. Develop customer relationships and marketing, improve communication, and personalize customer experiences.

The use of AI in garment and textile manufacturing was also featured at GFT 2025, such as AI-based body measurement technology for bespoke suit tailoring by Tojoy International Group and a smart fabric inspection machine from OSHIMA brand that could detect up to 26 types of fabric defects. Interested entrepreneurs will see more of these AI-driven solutions at GFT 2026 during 1-4 July 2026 at BITEC Bangkok!
